FAQ - Frequently asked Questions

Why can I not start pixi Mobile?

Make sure that your Android device is set to the correct language. You can set the language in Settings > Language & Input in your Android device. pixi Mobile supports these languages:

  • English / English (United States)

  • Deutsch / Deutsch (Deutschland)

If you changed the language, you might need to fully close pixi Mobile. After this, start the app and the login screen should be shown.

Do you recommend any device for pixi Mobile?

There is no device we recommend to use with pixi Mobile.

It has several reasons:

  • pixi Mobile was already tested by several customers on a test device we provided (Wepoy S95).
The feedback we got from customers was quite different. Some customers really liked the workmanship of the device itself as well as the availability of a physical keyboard. Other customers, however, didn't like the screen size of only 4,3 inch and would like to have a bigger screen instead of a physical keyboard in order to see more information at a glance.

  • Furthermore, we can't test devices extensively regarding wifi quality and battery power.

You can check a list of compatible devices in this pixipedia article and choose the device you like most: List of compatible devices.

Can I buy any devices at pixi to use them with pixi Mobile?

No, we will not sell any devices in connection with pixi Mobile.

Can I deny users access to certain apps or functionalities?

If you only want to use your Android device for pixi Mobile, other specific functionalities and you want to deny access to any other apps, you can find a large number of apps for this in the Google Play Store.

Using apps like AppLock or Perfect AppLock you can define that all other apps than pixi Mobile cannot be started. You can also set a password, which is then needed if you want to access the device settings.

Why am I not able to use newly created bins?

Bins that are created in pixi can be used after 3 hours in pixi Mobile. The root cause for this is that bin information is obtained in an interval of 3 hours from the pixi database. This also applies to changes that were made to bins.

However, it is possible to force an update of the bin list. Doing so, maps newly created bins and changes made in pixi Desktop directly into the Web and Mobile app. To do so, go to pixi Web Administration >Tables > Bins > {upper action bar}. Read and close the info box. Then, in pixi Mobile, go to Settings >Re-load bins.

What happens if items are part of a picklist but stock movements are needed?

If an item is part of a picklist, pixi Mobile checks this on different stock movement operations.

Take from Stock

In case the available item quantity (bin quantity - "reserved" quantity of this item for a picklist) is lower than the quantity that should be taken from stock, then pix* Mobile shows a message and taking the items from stock is not possible.

Relocate

In case an item should be relocated from one bin to another one, but this item is already "reserved" for a picklist, relocation of this item is not possible and pixi Mobile shows a message.

If you have scanned multiple items for relocation, you can check the list of pending items by scanning the source bin again. Remove the problematic item from the list and continue relocating the other items.

Bin Inventory

In case you want to do a bin inventory, pixi Mobile automatically shows a message if the bin contains items that are part of a picklist. You can cancel the inventory or continue. If you continue, make sure that the item quantity is sufficient for items on a picklist when finishing the inventory. Otherwise, pixi Mobile shows a message and the bin inventory can't be finished.

If there is no picklist for the items of the bin you want to inventorize but a picklist is created later, then you also need to make sure the item quantity is sufficient for the items on a picklist when finishing the inventory. Otherwise, pixi Mobile shows a message and the bin inventory can't be finished.

Is it possible to disable choosing the stock movement type?

Yes, you can define if the stock movement type needs to be chosen from a list for stock movements such as put to stock or take from stock. Check this documentation to get to know how to do it: Stock Movement Types

Why am I not able to log in?

Not being able to log in to pixi Mobile can have several reasons.

  1. missing permissions (see pixi Mobile - Permissions)

  2. wrong access data (see pixi Mobile - Login)

  3. other reasons

If 1. and 2. can be excluded as root cause, you should check further.

Clear Application Cache and Data

It can help to clear the application cache and data in the Android settings of your device. Since this doesn't seem to be done during a deinstallation of an Android app, it needs to be done manually.

  1. Open your devices Settings.

  2. Choose Apps in the settings.

  3. Search for pixi Mobile and open App info by tapping the apps name.

  4. (on newer Android versions) Open the storage settings by tapping Storage.

  5. Tap Clear data as well as Clear cache.

  6. Start pixi Mobile again and enter all access data.

You should now be able to log in.

How can I optimize the WLAN reception of my devices?

Often, there is a problem of covering the whole warehouse with proper WLAN signal power. In this case, devices need to switch between access points to be connected to the internet and the pixi database at any time.

One of our customers reported that the Android app WiFi Manager can solve this problem.
If several access points are available for a device, you can configure the app to always use the access point with the best signal power or when the access point should be switched. Like this you are always connected to the access point with the best signal power, avoiding error messages that occur because of a missing or bad internet connection.

Note: pixi can not be held accountable for using this app. Additionally, this app is not supported by pixi. In case of requests, please contact the app manufacturer.

Why am I not able to install/update pixi Mobile?

If you are currently using pixi Mobile version 1.45.0 (which is for pixi 18.09) on an Android version 7+ it can happen that the auto update functionality does not work properly when your database has meanwhile been updated. The new version gets downloaded but you are not asked to install it. Just nothing happens.

Trying to manually install the downloaded APK file does also not work and results in Android displaying:

App not installed. The package appears to be corrupt.

How to solve this?

  1. Manually deinstall the pixi Mobile application.

  2. Download the fitting pixi Mobile version from the my.pixi App.

  3. On the device, navigate to the downloaded APK file and install it.
You should now be able to install and use pixi Mobile.

Why does pixi Mobile not recognize the item barcode?

It can happen that pixi Mobile does not recognize the item barcode. This usually occurs with new or reset devices.

In many cases, the cause of this is an incorrect configuration of the device. The following points can help you solve the problem:

Before changing device settings, open a "note" app on the device or any app in which you can display text and scan the item barcode.

  • If it is displayed as in pixi Mobile, then the device configuration is possibly wrong and you should contact the manufacturer or seller of the device so that the barcodes are correctly recorded.

  • If it is not displayed as it is in pixi Mobile, the pixi database settings are probably the cause. In the pixi Control Center > Database Settings > Mobile there are some settings that can influence the barcode scan. Check it for correctness and contact support if necessary.

My pixi Mobile version is higher than my database version. How do I resolve the problem?

If you have updated pixi Mobile and the version now installed does not match your database version, you cannot use the app. The version of the app must be compatible with the database version. You must either have your database updated to the latest version by pixi Support or downgrade the pixi Mobile app. Follow these steps to install a lower version of pixi Mobile:

  1. Log in to pixi Web and first check the version number of the database in the Configuration box on the right-hand side of the home page under Your Descartes pixi version.

  2. Remove the pixi Mobile app from your mobile device.

  3. Log in to the my.pixi app with your mobile device.

  4. Under Archive you will find the older pixi Mobile versions as APK files. Find the version that matches your database version and download it.

  5. Install the downloaded APK file.

  6. Log in to the app.

Note:

To avoid the incompatibility of the app with the database version, you must turn off the automatic app updates in the Google Play Store. You can find instructions on how to do this here.
