Serial Number Validation

pixi Mobile supports setting a serial number for an item in programs "Scan-In" and "Pick to Box".

In order to use this functionality in pixi, the related tag needs to be assigned to items (Serial Number [SN]). If you scan a tagged item, you need to provide this information when the item is put into a shipping box.

Setting a Serial Number for Items

Scan-In

  1. Open a Picklist.

  2. Scan the Item Barcode.

  3. If the SN tag is assigned to an item, then you need to enter the Serial Number in this step.

  4. The item will be put to the next available Box.

  5. Scan other items until the whole picklist is processed.

Important Database Settings

Field type (pixi Control Center > Database Settings > Shipping > Serial Number)
This setting defines whether integers or strings can be used as a serial number.
If the value "String" is chosen, the minimum and maximum length of the serial number is checked.
If the value "Integer" is set, a range for the minimum and maximum value of the serial number is checked.
Depending on the setting, pixi Mobile shows either a numeric or alphanumeric display keyboard (from AVA 17.08 on).

Minimum Value (Integer) (pixi Control Center > Database Settings > Shipping > Serial Number)
Minimum value of the serial number

Maximum Value (Integer) (pixi Control Center > Database Settings > Shipping > Serial Number)
Maximum value of the serial number; should not exceed 38 digits (from LOU update 3 and ELI Milestone 2 on)
For MAYA and ELI Milestone 1: the max value is 9223372036854775807.

Minimum Length (String) (pixi Control Center > Database Settings > Shipping > Serial Number)
Minimum length of the serial number (should be greater than 1)

Maximum Length (String) (pixi Control Center > Database Settings > Shipping > Serial Number)
Maximum length of the serial number (max. 50 characters)

Serial Number Validity Check enabled (pixi Control Center > Database Settings > Shipping > Serial Number)
With this setting you can activate / deactivate the validity check when entering a serial number.
If it is activated, then the following settings are checked:

  • Minimum Value (Integer)

  • Maximum Value (Integer)

  • Minimum Length (String)

  • Maximum Value (String)

The entered serial number has to be unique in any case!

Processing Serial Numbers using Batch Management Functionality

As it is by default not possible to store serial numbers per bin in pixi, this has been implemented as an enhancement using the already existing functionality of storing batch numbers.

Warning: You can use the functionality in case you only have items with serial numbers. Additionally, only certain pixi Mobile programs support this: Put to Stock, Take from Stock, Relocate, Goods Receipt, Pick to Box. In all other programs and applications the entered serial number is shown as batch number.
