pixi Mobile supports scanning a whole carton at once using the item barcode, recording one packing unit with a single scan. When an item is delivered or picked in packs, you can scan the pack a single time and pixi books all the units inside it automatically - no need to open the box or scan each item one by one.
Info: Packing unit scanning uses the packing unit already stored on your items - no re-entry or new item setup is needed. It is available for items that have a packing unit defined (Items > Detail pages); items without one, and serial-numbered items, continue to work without this option.
Enabling Packing Unit Scanning
Packing unit scanning is off by default. Your Descartes pixi support enables it for you when you're ready. Once enabled, the toggle (or the Pick to Box multiplier list) appears automatically for items that have a packing unit defined.
Stock Movements
Put to Stock, Take from Stock and Goods Receipt & Cross Docking
In these programs, turn on the Use packing unit toggle before you scan to apply the pack size to your next scan. For an item with a pack size of 10, scan the carton and enter how many packs you have - pixi records the full quantity automatically (for example, 4 packs equals 40 units).
Info: The toggle turns itself off after every scan, so you consciously choose to use it each time. This prevents accidental multiplication when an item and its pack share the same barcode.
To use packing unit:
Open the program.
Enable Use packing Unit.
Enter the Item Code.
Last Scan displays the units that are now scanned.
Enter the Target bin and Continue or scan another item.
Enter the movement type.
Click Continue and finish the process.
Pick to Box
Because Pick to Box already knows which item is next, you pick the multiplier from a list instead of using a toggle - for example, x1 for a single item or x10 for a full pack. Selecting a multiplier books that quantity in a single step. This extends the standard Pick to Box process: bulk items are shipped out and labeled directly from the mobile device. Follow these steps in Pick to Box:
Select a picklist that has Mobile Ship-Out enabled.
-
Select from the Use packing unit dropdown your quantity (e.g 1 or 8, depending on the item). Please note that for the Mobile Ship Out, order lines are automatically split into Quantity "1", so every physical package receives its own label.
In case the items in the packing unit is not sufficient (more or less), the dropdown will not be displayed.
Scan the item.
-
On the next screen:
Packing Unit scanned: Displays x[item], which the number of items one packing unit includes
Quantity: Displays the max packing units that can be scanned
Quantity (input field): Enter the packing units you'd like to scan.
Scan the next item.
If the order contains only bulk items, pixi ships the box out automatically as soon as the last item is scanned - the items are removed from the box and the shipping documents are printed.
