Picking with Pick-to-Light


The Pick-to-Light (also Pick-by-Light) feature in the pixi mobile app visually guides warehouse staff through the picking process. Each user or device is assigned a unique color, which is displayed both in the app and on the corresponding warehouse LED lights. This color-coded system ensures clear identification for each picker, reduces the risk of picking errors, and streamlines workflow efficiency.

Key Benefits:

  • Visual Guidance: Lights indicate the correct item locations for each picker, matching the color assigned in the app.

  • Clear Identification: Unique colors prevent confusion between multiple users or devices working in the same area.

  • Error Reduction: The system helps minimize picking mistakes and improves overall accuracy.

How it works:

  1. The app sends your selected color to the hardware system via pixi Messaging.

  2. The LED light at the bin displays your color.

  3. You receive picking instructions and color cues directly in the app, too.


Hardware Setup

The setup and maintenance of all Pick-to-Light hardware, including installation, wiring, and troubleshooting of physical lights, will be managed by third party hardware providers. pixi does not provide support or services for hardware setup or configuration.

Preparation

Database Settings

The setting PickToLight - Picking Assistance needs to be enabled in order to use the functionality. Only the Descartes pixi support can enable this setting. Please contact our helpdesk to request the activation.


Enabling Pick-to-Light with pixi Messaging

The messaging event pixiEXPickingAssistanceEvents needs to be enabled to use the functionality.


User Permissions

No user permissions required.


Mobile Settings

To assign a unique color to each user or device to ensure easy visual identification during the picking process. To assign a device color:

  1. Open the pixi Mobile app.

  2. Navigate to Settings > General Settings.

  3. Tap Device Color.

  4. Enter a hexadecimal code (e.g., #FF5733)





    The device color is displayed in front of the bin name in the top-left corner of the Item Info view in both the Picklist and Pick to Box programs.
