pixi Mobile – Basic Functionality and Setup

Configuration pixi Control Center

User Permissions

Before you can log in to pixi Mobile, your user needs to have special permissions.

Open User administration in pixi Control Center > Tools > Administration > User administration > Roles and permissions and activate the LoginAllowed[MobileDevice] permission for the needed user role. Then assign this role to your user.

Also check, which programs should be visible for users in the program list. For this you need to enable the ProgramEnabled[...] permissions.

Note: Every supplier order and delivery document is assigned to a location (e.g. 001). To be able to work on a goods receipt document with pixi Mobile, the user needs to login to the corresponding location. This means that users, that are logged in to location 001, cannot work on goods receipt documents that are assigned to location 002.

Database Settings

Some important database settings should be checked before working with pixi Mobile. This section contains settings that are used by all pixi Mobile programs. Settings that are used by specific programs can be found in the appropriate pixipedia articles:

Add 0 to 12 char Barcode (pixi Control Center > Database Settings > Mobile)
Activate this setting to add a 0 infront of a 12 character barcode, so it matches the barcode saved in pixi.

Maximum item quantity for stock movements (pixi Control Center > Database Settings > Inventory)
Contains the maximum quantity for a stock movement that can be processed in one go. By default it is set to 1000000 (1 million) If this setting should be changed, please contact pixi Support.

Maximum item quantity for stock movements per batch
Sets the item quantity for individual batches within a stock movement. The default value is 15000.
Example: If the value 500 is set and the stock movement includes a total of 1000 items, two batches of 500 items each will be moved
If this setting needs to be changed, please contact pixi Support. Note: This setting already existed under the name Maximum quantity for stock movements. It has been renamed.

Filter Stock Operations With Location (pixi Control Center > Database Settings > Inventory)
If this setting is activated, stock movements cannot be performed across locations. It is for example not possible to relocate between locations. Bins can be named the same on different locations.
If this setting is deactivated, stock movements can be performed across locations. Please have in mind that bin names must be unique across all locations.

Scan In - with all item codes allowed (pixi Control Center > Database Settings > Shipping)
If this setting is enabled, the shop item number (ItemNrInt) and supplier item number (ItemNrSuppl) can be used besides the barcode for scanning items. In this case all item numbers need to be unique. Only pixi Support can change this setting.

pixi Mobile Item Code Type (pixi Control Center > Database Settings > Mobile)
This setting defines which item code type is shown in all pixi Mobile programs. By default, the item barcode is shown in all programs.
The following types are available:

  • Barcode

  • Shop Item Number

  • Internal Item Number

The default value for this setting is "Barcode".

pixi Mobile Diagnostics (pixi Control Center > Database Settings > Mobile)
This setting enables pixi Mobile diagnostic logging which sends data to Google Analytics.
Since this setting might affect the pixi performance, it can only be enabled by pixi employees. The setting is meant to be used in case of performance issues and should be disabled immediately when logging is not needed anymore.

Note: The database setting "Google Analytics" must also be enabled.

Licence Information

Every user login to pixi Mobile uses 1 mobile licence.
This licence is a combination of the device ID and the username which was used for logging in.

A licence can be taken over (expires) after 30 minutes of inactivity by another user. In case the original owner of the licence wants to continue working after his inactivity, but the licence was meanwhile taken over by another user, he can either go back to the login screen or ask an other user for releasing a licence.

Automatic Update

pixi Mobile checks after the login, whether the currently installed pixi Mobile version matches the pixi database version.

If the version matches, you will be forwarded to the program list (on first login the location needs to be chosen). If pixi Mobile notices that the pixi database has already updated to some higher version, a message is shown, which says that a new version is available for pixi Mobile.
In case the installed pixi Mobile version is higher than what is needed, a message is displayed telling the user that the version is too high and the appropriate one needs to be installed.

Update Steps

Updating pixi Mobile is done in several smaller steps:

  1. The new app version gets downloaded.

  2. (Optional) An Android message pops up, which says that for security reasons you cannot install apps from unknown sources.

    • Go to Settings > Security and enable Unknown sources.

    • Open pixi Mobile and log in again.

  3. pixi Mobile gets closed and the Android installation process starts.

  4. You are asked to confirm and the installation continues.

  5. The installation screen closes - it has finished. Open pixi Mobile again.

Useful Information

In this section you can find some useful information regarding how to work with pixi Mobile.

  • Minimum: Android 8 (API 26)*

  • Recommended: Android 10 or higher

  • Display resolution: 800x480

*Planned future minimum requirement: Android 11. In line with Zebra’s LifeGuard for Android support guidelines, we plan to make Android 11 the new minimum requirement in the long term. Customers who are still using devices running Android 8 or 9 should plan to replace their devices. We will inform you in good time.

Scanning with the Device Camera

When scanning barcodes with a device camera, a visual indicator helps ensure the correct barcode is captured. A red dot appears on the camera view to show which barcode is selected for scanning. If multiple barcodes are visible, the system scans the barcode marked with the red dot, reducing the chance of selecting the wrong item.

Scanning with Zebra Devices

When scanning an item or bin with a Zebra device, no ENTER command is triggered so that the scanned data can be checked by the user. If you are setting up pixi Mobile on your Zebra device on initial installation and you still want the ENTER command to be triggered, please proceed as follows:

  1. Open the pixi Mobile app

  2. Open the DataWedge app

  3. Open the path PixiWedgeProfile > Associated Apps > Three dots > New App Acitvity

  4. Scroll to the entry com.pixi.mobile and select it

  5. Select "crc***.MainActivity".

  6. The configuration is completed

Sporadic Scan Failures with Zebra Devices in pixi Mobile

If, when scanning with a Zebra device, certain barcodes (e.g., every third scan) are recognized by the device but not transmitted to pixi Mobile, please check the following settings:

Pixi DataWedge Profile > Keystroke Output > Set the value to 1 ms.

After applying this adjustment, scans will be transmitted correctly.
